New Takfiri alliance declares war on al-Qaeda in Syria

A new militant alliance in Syria has declared war on al-Qaeda-linked Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL), the new alliance said in a statement. In the statement which published on Facebook on Friday, the new alliance called the Army of the Mujahideen pledged to fight ISIL “until it announces its dissolution.” According to local sources Mujahideen is militant group sharing Takfiri ideology, same as al-Qaeda, but they have different interests in their war on Syria. The alliance called on ISIL militants either join the ranks of other militant groups or lay their weapons down and leave Syria. The alliance accused ISIL of spreading strife and insecurity among the militants fighting in a deadly insurgency for toppling the Syrian government. The Army of Mujahideen also accused ISIL of theft and looting, and of “kidnapping, killing and torturing (rebel) commanders and activists.” Syrian opposition has been struggling with internal disputes, some of them deadly, during the recent months.

Iraqi army readying major attack to retake Fallujah

Iraq is preparing a “major attack” to retake militant-held Fallujah, a senior official said Sunday, spelling a new assault for the city, west of Baghdad. Special forces have already conducted operations inside the city, the official said. The regular army has paused on the edge of the city to allow residents time to leave, after which it will launch “the attack to crush the terrorists”. One option being considered to oust al Qaeda from Falluja would be for army units and tribal fighters to form a “belt” around the city, isolating it and cutting supply routes for militants, military and local officials said. They would also urge residents to leave the city. “The siege could take days, we are betting on the time to give people a chance to leave the city, weaken the militants and exhaust them,” a senior military officer who declined to be named said. Iraqi government forces also launched an air strike on Ramadi city on Sunday killing 25 militants, according to local officials.
