On MSNBC‘s Andrea Mitchell Reports (Nov. 4, 2013), Sen. Patrick Leahy, who helped make the Patriot Act a law, had stern criticisms of the scope and overreach of NSA surveillance tactics and targets. He is not at all happy that the NSA has the gall to think it can just steal our private data and do what it pleases with our secrets in case they need it in the future. Leahy then compared this NSA notion with the police who “breaks into our houses and steal private records because some day we may need it.” We agree with Leahy’s position on this particular comparison point.

Leahy says it is “baloney” that the NSA can protect our data. He said they can’t even protect their own data from a 28 year old contractor (referring to Eric Snowden), so he does not believe they can protect the sensitive private info of Americans.
